People from North Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills (WKH) district of Meghalaya, and Goalpara and Kamrup from Assam also took part in the competition. Kailash Sharma, a member of the organising committee, said that they have a society where people from both states are members. They have been organizing the fishing competition every year since 2015.

“Many times people from both states are involved in clashes because of border disputes and many other reasons, but we try to solve these kinds of matters this way and with the help of coordination between the people of both states,” said Kailsh Sharma. The competition was held in a huge pond, where the first, second, and third prizes went to the contestants from the West Khasi Hills (WKH) District of Meghalaya.

The competition was held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the first prize was Rs 1 lakh for the person who could catch the biggest fish with his fishing rod. The second prize was Rs 35 thousand, and the third prize was Rs 15 thousand, respectively. The committee also gave a consolation prize of two thousand rupees to the twenty competitors. To catch the fish in the competition, competitors use different kinds of feed, like earthworms, flour, larvae of wasps, silkworms, and many other things.
