Assam Floods: 55,677 people hit in 92 villages

Damages to infrastructure have been reported from several districts in this first spate of Assam floods

Guwahati: Over 55,000 people across 92 villages in the 4 districts of Goalpara, Nagaon, Hojai, and Cachar are continuing to feel the effects of the first wave of floods that have already claimed 10 people in Assam. This is a marked improvement since yesterday when the number of flood-affected persons in the state now stood at 69,586.

Although the worst of this spate of pre-monsoon flash floods seemingly over, 24,097 hectares of croplands are still submerged under the floods.

 With the waters starting to recede, the inmates of relief camps are now starting to travel back home, and as of today, 2,392 people, seeking refuge from the wrath of the deluge, are still sheltered in 21 relief camps spread across the districts of Goalpara, Hojai, and Cachar.

Damages to infrastructure have been reported from several districts in this first spate of Assam floods and 5 roads in Barak Valley's Karimganj have been damaged. Additionally, erosion has been reported from the districts of Sonitpur, Biswanath, Majuli, and Dibrugarh.
