Assam Floods: 71 Villages in 12 Revenue Circles Affected

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority has released a report of the problems caused by the recent floods in the state. This report was generated by the Flood Reporting and Information Management System on Thursday.

According to the report, a total of six districts and subdivisions have been affected recently. They are Bajali, Biswanath, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Lakhmpur and Kamrup. And a total of 12 subdivisions have been affected by the floods within these districts and subdivisions. They are Sarupeta in Bajali, Halem and Gohpur in Biswanath, Sissiborgaon and Dhemaji in Dhemaji, Jorhat East and Teok in Jorhat, North Guwahati and Hajo in Kamrup and Bihpuria, Kadam and Narayanpur in Lakhimpur. Also, a total of 71 villages have been affected across these revenue circles.

58 people have been affected in Bajali, 2519 in Dhemaji, 572 in Jorhat and 1995 in Lakhimpur bringing the total number of affected people to 5144. Also, 52 hectares of farmland in Biswanath, 58 hectares in Dhemaji, 5.50 hectares in Jorhat, 125 hectares in Kamrup and 74.90 hectares in Lakhimpur have been affected by the flood taking the total affected land to 315.40 hectares during these floods.

One relief camp is active in the Kadam revenue circle of Lakhimpur which has a total of fifteen people including three children and two relief distribution centres in the Dhemaji revenue circle of Dhemaji. Also, a total of 12075 animals including big, small and poultry have been affected.

The National Disaster Response Force had to deploy one boat in Dhemaji while the Fire and Emergency Services had to deploy another boat in Lakhimpur to rescue people during the flood. An embankment has been damaged in the Nagaon district of the state. While roads have been affected in Lakhimpur, Kokrajhar and Dhubri.
