Assam Floods: Flood recedes in Lakhimpur district

The present flash flood has badly affected Lakhimpur district along with the rest of the part of the State.

LAKHIMPUR: The present flash flood has badly affected Lakhimpur district along with the rest of the part of the State. During the ravaging situation, four flood relief camps have been set up under Narayanpur Revenue Circle under the auspices of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) while one flood relief camp has been set up under Subansiri Revenue Circle. In Narayanpur Revenue Circle, the flood relief camps are set up at Rangati High School, Dhalpur Higher Secondary School, Dhalpur High School and Gopalpur LP School while only one camp under Subansiri Revenue Circle is set up at Majigaon LP School.

As per information found from DDMA, child friendly space, in view of physical and mental benefit of the children, have been facilitated in these flood relief camps. On the other hand, District Social Welfare Office has set up breast feeding corner for the convenience of the lactating mothers. An NGO, Rural Volunteers' Centre by name, distributed teaching-learning materials in the flood relief camps at Rangati High School and Dhalpur HS School.

Notably, three children, out of five casualties, unfortunately lost their lives till date due to flood in the district. Under such circumstances, three urgent flood awareness programmes were conducted at Kutubpur, No. 2 Ahmedpur and Dangibil area under Bihpuria Revenue Circle. Two organizations, Aid et Action and NEAID, extended cooperation to the district administration with regard to conducting the awareness programmes in association with DDMA.

However, the inmates of the flood relief camps started to go back to their residences from Saturday as flood receded in the district.
