Assam floods: Flood situation worsens in West Karbi Anglong

The year's third wave of flood has worsened the situation in West Karbi Anglong immersing more than 100 villages

DONKAMUKAM: The year's third wave of flood has worsened the situation in West Karbi Anglong immersing more than 100 villages and damaging several hundred hectares of cultivated paddy land. The excess water of Karbi Langpi Hydro Electric Project (KLHEP) of Amtereng and NEEPCO of Umrangso (Kopili) caused severe flood in the downstream after it was released. The worst affected is No: 5 Rongkhang and No: 6 Bithung Rengthama and No: 7 Kopili MAC Constituencies of West Karbi Anglong.

The affected people of Taradubi, Namtaradubi, Gondabil, Barman Gaon, Hatimura, Bithung Sapori, Mugasong, Tumpreng, Baligaon, Wakanta No: 8, Kollongamukh, Sildubi, Boithalangso area etc have been taking shelter on the embankment along with their belongings since last evening. The road communication between Hojai Tumpreng Donkamukam got disrupted because Kopili water is overflowing at Komorakatta area under Hojai district.
