Guwahati: Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant Ambani have donated Rs 25 crore to Assam Chief Minister Relief Fund to help flood-hit people in the state.
The flood situation in the Assam has been deteriorating over the past week and the state government has opened several relief camps and distribution centers in the affected areas.
The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took the micro-blogging site Twitter on Friday and thanked the duo for their contribution.
''My deepest gratitude to Shri Mukesh Ambani & Shri Anant Ambani for standing with the people of Assam at this crucial juncture by donating Rs 25 cr to CM Relief Fund.
We appreciate this kind gesture. This will go a long way in augmenting our flood relief measures,'' Sarma tweeted.
A few days back, Actor Arjun Kapoor Director Rohit Shetty, and Singer Sonu Nigam had too contributed to the CM Relief Fund.
Notably, Assam is experiencing the worst flood which has affected millions of people in 32 districts. Several people have lost their lives while others forced to leave their places.
Flood and landslide toll has been continuously rising and in the past 24 hours, seven people have lost their lives. The death toll due to floods and landslides has increased to 107.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) flood bulletin, 30 districts are reeling under floods in the state.
So far, the floods affected over 43 lakh people in 4,536 villages in 103 revenue circles. Following the floods, as many as 2,84,875 affected people are taking shelter in 759 relief camps.
