GUWAHATI: A forest ranger was seriously injured during an elephant attack in Hojai's Lanka. The forest officer has been identified as Shivajit Sharma of Lanka.
He was injured while attempting to drive a herd of wild tuskers out of the forests and into the settlements in search of food.
While the forest staff was attempting to chase the tuskers away, one of the elephants turned around and charged the forest crew. Shivajit was injured in the attack, but he was able to flee.
He was immediately taken to a hospital and is presently being treated at the Haji Abdul Majid Memorial Hospital.
It should be mentioned that in recent days, many man-elephant confrontations have been reported in various parts of the state. Rajib Gogoi, 45, was trampled to death by a wild elephant on Monday at Bojaloni in the Margherita West Range forest office in Digboi.
Earlier this month, on December 18, a horrifying tragedy occurred in the Tamarhat region of Assam's Dhubri district, which was recorded on video. Locals obtained video of a wild elephant following and assaulting a guy as he attempted to flee.
The elephant charges the man so quickly that he catches the 30-year-old man and ploughs him to the ground with his tusks in the blink of an eye. The panicked screams of eyewitnesses who were there at the moment of the tragedy can also be heard.
At the end of the video, the elephant can be seen carrying the man across a huge open area. Meanwhile, major media outlets posted a 14-second video of the horrifying episode on social media, along with information about it.
