GUWAHATI: Former mayor of Guwahati city, Mrigen Sarania has filed a nomination for the upcoming GMC (Guwahati Municipality Corporation) elections.
Mrigen Sarania who previously held the Mayor's office in Guwahati has filed his nomination at the office of Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner.
Sarania was accompanied to the DC office by AGP MLA from Guwahati Ramendra Narayan Kalita.
Apart from the former mayor, several other candidates from different political parties have filed their nominations at the Deputy Commissioner's office in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Notably, the last date for filing nominations for upcoming GMC polls is Wednesday 30 March 2022.
There is a total of 7,96,829 voters out of which 3,96,891 voters are male, a total of 27 voters are transgender and 3,99,911 are female voters.
The election commission earlier informed that a political party can spend Rupees 2,50,000 in each of the wards of the city.
For the upcoming GMC polls to be conducted in Guwahati there will be a total of 789 polling stations in different locations.
According to the election commission, four seats will be reserved for SC (Schedule Caste) and 3 seats for ST (Schedule Tribe).
It may be mentioned that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) polls are scheduled to be conducted after 9 years gap on 19 April 2022.
The counting of the votes will be done just after one day of the election i.e. on 21 April 2022. The counting process will start from 08:00 am in the morning on 21 April.
Meanwhile, the political parties are busy campaigning for their upcoming GMC elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said it they win the election 2 thousand litre of water per month will be supplied to every household in Guwahati.
Moreover, a list of roads and by lanes has been prepared to provide lights on every 30 metre of the streets and solar lights will also be installed if APCDL fails to provide electricity for all said the State Coordinator of AAP, Bhaben Choudhury.
