LAKHIMPUR: The Freshers’ Social of the Dhakuakhana College of Teacher Education, welcoming the newly-inducted trainees for the academic session of 2023-25, was celebrated on Saturday with funfare and calls for imbibing values in education and curricula.
The agenda of the day-long programme began with a cleanliness and plantation drive and smriti tarpan event. It was followed by the unfurling of the college flag by Principal Pradip Chandra Borah. Then the newcomers were welcomed to the college by following Assamese traditional rituals. Then a cordial interactive session was held among the old and fresh trainees under the management of trainee Janardan Phukan. The open session, organized on the occasion, commenced with Principal Pradip Chandra Borah in the chair and presentation of a chorus song by the trainees of the college. It was inaugurated by Puspa Dutta, the retired Vice-Principal of Paschim Dhakuakhana HS School. In his lecture, Dutta said, “The basic need to run a society in order is the honest people. To be honest, people must be simple, courteous, modest, humble and educated in the real sense. Building of such people is of course a challenging task, which we must take.”
Chitra Kumar Koch, the Vice-Principal of Dhakuakhana College, graced the occasion as appointed speaker. In his lecture Chitra Kumar Koch laid stress on intellectual enhancement in individual and in the society. In the event, trainee Himashree Saikia, Trishna Pegu presented Birgeet, Antaripa Hazarika presented modern song while First Semester trainees presented Diha-Nam. Former Governing Body president Bholanath Gogoi, incumbent president Purnananda Gogoi, member Purna Lahon attended the event as guests of honour.
