Assam: Gang of Robbers and Narcotics Peddlers Apprehended from Lumding

The security personnel including members of CIB unit of the Railway Protection Force apprehended a total of 6 miscreants.

LUMDING: A gang of robbers involved in various unlawful activities was apprehended by the security forces. The security personnel including people from the CIB unit of the Railway Protection Force apprehended a total of 6 miscreants.

A gang of miscreants involved in the robbing of valuables from passengers was caught by the railway police. They were involved in the snatching and stealing of mobile phones, cash and other valuables from the people of the passengers of the trains.

Suspected narcotics peddlers were also part of this group of miscreants and they were suspected of selling brown sugar to narcotics consumers. The team was also able to recover a total of six mobile phones, Rs 10725 in cash and suspected brown sugar worth around Rs 9 lakhs from the miscreants.

The identities of the 6 miscreants were also revealed by the security forces. They are Rafik Uddin, Azijul Haque, Abdul Wahid, Anuwar Hussain and Rajib Hussain from Hojai and Mahidul Islam from Nagaon. Mahidul Islam is said to be the mastermind of the whole gang of miscreants by the security forces.

It can be noted that the teams from the security forces, were able to apprehend a gang of 9 more robbers during an operation carried out a few days back. Meanwhile, the railway protection force teams are carrying out interrogations on the apprehended miscreants. They are also on the lookout for more miscreants to make the station and the locality safer for everyone.

Previously, Shankar Dutta, a notorious drug peddler was arrested during a joint raid in Vivek Express at Lumding Railway Station by Lumding Railway Security Force and Lumding GRP on Sunday night. The railway security personnel also recovered 430 grams of suspected narcotics substance like heroin from the possession of the arrested drug peddler, sources said. The worth of the recovered narcotics in the market would be more than Rs 80 lakh. The railway security personnel also arrested 8 thieves who were allegedly involved in stealing cash or other belongings of the passengers of various running trains. The security personnel also recovered cash, 9 mobile handsets as well as some stolen items from their possession.
