Assam: Gang of robbers loot farmers

BILASIPARA: On Monday, a robbery took place on the Brahmaputra River near Shaildhara located along the border of Dhubri and Goalpara districts.

According to reports, farmers had gone to Jaleswar Market to sell jute and other agricultural products. The farmers were returning from the market in a shallow boat. All of a sudden, a gang of around 20 dacoits attacked the farmers with swords and other weapons and looted Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh from the farmers.

Later, two dacoits identified as Saddam Hussain and Saha Jamal were returning home towards Bilasipara when the local people caught them and handed them over to Bilasipara police. Police investigation is on to nab the other dacoits.
