GUWAHATI: In a significant operation near the Assam-Tripura border in the Churaibari locality, law enforcement authorities confiscated approximately 51 kilograms of ganja on a Monday morning. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police officers led by the Churaibari in-charge conducted a raid on a car with the registration number AS 11EC-4166. During the search, they discovered four packets of ganja concealed within a metal trunk box, strategically placed near a checkpoint.

The drug peddlers had ingeniously hidden the narcotics inside a metal trunk box bearing the embossed name of the Border Security Force (BSF), adding an extra layer of deception to their illicit activities.

Following the successful operation, the Karimganj Police apprehended two individuals involved in the smuggling operation, including the car's driver. The two suspects have been identified as Bodiut Zaman and Anisul Islam, both hailing from Guwahati. Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested individuals were part of a drug trafficking network with intentions to transport the seized ganja from Agartala to Guwahati, a route commonly exploited by drug smugglers.

This latest incident has raised concerns about the effectiveness of border security and the audacity of drug traffickers in the region. To address these issues, authorities have registered a case related to the ganja seizure and initiated a comprehensive investigation. The police are actively working to uncover more details about the smuggling operation, including the identities of other individuals involved and potential links to larger drug trafficking networks.

The seizure of such a significant quantity of ganja near a border area highlights the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in curbing the illegal drug trade. It also underscores the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between regional authorities to combat drug smuggling activities that pose a threat to the well-being of communities.

As the investigation unfolds, the authorities remain committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks and bringing those responsible to justice. This operation serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain the security and integrity of border regions and protect communities from the harmful consequences of drug-related crimes.
