GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) announced in a press statement on March 6 that the supply of potable water to few regions served by the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) will end on March 31, 2023.

This choice was made in response to the GMC's old water supply schemes, which have experienced considerable output reductions and frequent outages.

All water supply users in these locations are being urged by the GMC to choose a new water connection from the GJB as soon as feasible.

Families can request online access to the GJB (Guwahati Jal Board) app or the website www.gmdwsb.in through the Google Play Store.

"In order to provide dependable and secure water to all Guwahati citizens, the GJB has been working to upgrade and modernise its water delivery infrastructure”, the statement added.

For additional information on how to get a new water connection, residents are recommended to get in touch with the GJB.

Customers have been reassured by the GJB that they will make every effort to ensure a seamless changeover and continuous water delivery.

Residents of Guwahati were urged to submit applications for water supply connections beginning March 1 earlier on February 24, according to the Guwahati Jal Board.

It was the second occasion of its kind after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially opened the water supply of JICA-sponsored projects in a few Guwahati neighbourhoods on December 22, 2022.

Speaking to the media, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal announced that beginning March 1, families living in places like Ramsa Hill, Gandhibasti, Nehru Stadium, Islampur, Hazimusafirkhana, Ashram Road, Lachit Nagar, ISKON Temple, Bora Service, and a section of Bhangagarh along Rajgarh Main Road from Sainik Bhawan to Big Bazar may apply for water connections.

According to him, the government wants to provide piped water to 5,024 homes in these locations.
