Assam: Girls’ Hostel Innaugarated for Saikhowa Higher Secondary School

TINSUKIA: The girls' hostel of the Saikhowa Higher Secondary School was formally inaugurated on Thursday, August 17.

It is important to note that the work on the girls' hostel began in the year 2013. It took over 10 years and funding of Rs 1 Cr 51 Lakh 99 thousand and 500 to construct the hostel for this well-known educational institution.

Member of Parliament Pradan Baruah attended this event. The Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Sadiya constituency, Bolen Chetiya was present for the inaugural event. Several dignitaries including the District Education officer of Tinsukia and the members of the school management committee also attended the event alongside the students of the institution.

Previously, the MLA Rupesh Gowala inaugurated a WinS (Wash in Schools) project executed by the Rotary Club of Doomdooma at Hoonlal HS School on Thursday. This project is a part of the Rotary Foundation’s (the Trust of Rotary International for carrying out humanitarian services) Water & Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) in schools. The grant for the execution of the WinS project was received from R I District -3240 for 2022-2023.

In the beginning of the inaugural function, past president Rotarian Sujit Kumar Baruah spoke briefly about Rotary International’s humanitarian activities like polio eradication, the fight against illiteracy, 3H (Health, Hunger and Hygiene) programme undertaken all over the world. The programme was attended by Principal Alip Khan, President of Rotary Club of Doomdooma, Bhupen Gohain, secretary Meghnath Bharadwaj, Past Assistant Governor (PAG) Dhiren Deka, journalist Arjun Baruah and teachers and the students of the school. MLA Gowala who inaugurated the project, exhorted the students to maintain personal hygiene and not to waste water and destroy the water-flowing appliances of the WinS project, besides urging them to keep the school campus clean.
