GOLAGHAT: All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) was divided into two parts in Golaghat on Saturday. In a press meet held at Golaghat Press Club on Saturday, Bhimkant Buragohain, president of the newly formed All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (Independent), alleged that Tai Ahom Students’ Union violated the organisation’s constitution and ran the organisation in their own way.

Further, he said that the ATASU Golaghat district committee was formed in 2018, and since then no general meeting or representative meeting has been held till date. In 2022, the ATASU district session was held in Khumtai, but the session extended the term by two years by holding a general body meeting without a meeting of representatives.

In December 2023, a letter was sent to the district president by the central committee to dismiss the district committee and form a new committee before the central session to be held at Charaideo, but the district president, by his own wishes, held an executive meeting at the ATASU Golaghat district office on January 4 and sent a central representative. For which the other members of the organisation expressed their concern.

Apart from this, this organisation did not receive information about the Central Martyrs’ Day, which was held at the auditorium of Golaghat Sati Sadhani Kalakshetra a few days ago. No one is aware of this programme except the president and a few of his office-bearers. Condemning such an act, 33 regional committees of the ATASU Golaghat district declared the Tai Ahom Students Union independent.
