GUWAHATI: On Wednesday, a sizable quantity of gold biscuits worth Rs. 3 crore were confiscated by the Government Railway Police (GRP) from the Guwahati Train Station.
Sources claim that during an operation at Paltan Bazar Train Station, the GRP was able to effectively recover a sizable quantity of gold biscuits from the Rajdhani Express.
The estimated market value of the 20 gold biscuits that were seized, which weighed 3.20 kg, is Rs. 3 crore.
One Sharif Alam was taken into custody by the police in relation to the seizure. It has been established that the gold biscuits were being smuggled to the national capital from Manipur but were intercepted in Guwahati.
A significant amount of gold was confiscated by GRP yesterday at the Guwahati Train Station. Sampat Rao, a single person, was detained in relation to the seizure.
The suspected gold smuggler was apprehended at the train station with about 320 grammes of gold. According to sources, the person was detained as a result of suspicion. It was discovered that the gold was being carried from Agartala to the national capital but was stopped at Guwahati. The seized gold was reportedly valued at Rs 20 lakh.
In the Karbi Anglong area of Assam, the Assam Police rescued two gibbons and detained two people in connection with this.
The gibbons were saved after intercepting a truck in Bokajan. The truck was allegedly unlawfully transporting the species from Manipur through Karbi Anglong, according to the authorities. The truck that was confiscated has the licence plate AS-01 PC-3927.
In the meantime, police detained two people in relation to the incident. Mohammad Waris and Naowa Meitei, both Imphal locals, are the two smugglers who have been detained.
The gibbons were turned over to the forest department, according to information provided by the police. Further inquiry into the situation has been initiated.
