Assam: Government Documents Found To Be Burnt At Guwahati's Nabagraha Cremation Ground

Two pickup trucks were reportedly assigned the duty to drop the huge pile of government papers at the cremation ground where they were burned on the pyres.

Guwahati: On Friday morning, a large pile of government documents were found in a burnt state at the Nabagraha Cremation Ground in Guwahati.

As per reports, two pickup trucks were assigned the duty to drop the huge pile of government documents to the cremation ground where it was burned on the pyre on Thursday. 

When confronted by the media, the truck drivers gave vague replies and the only information they gave away was the fact that they were workers of the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). They further stated that they were required to make 12 more trips to the cremation ground to dispose of all of the 'junk' papers.

Reportedly, the truck drivers were accompanied by a 'well-dressed man who refused to comment on the issue. 

The burnt papers still emitted smoke till Friday afternoon and appeared to have been burned in the early hours of Friday morning.

Speaking to Pratidin Time, one of the committee members of the Nabagraha Cremation Ground informed that the pile of papers were simply old identity cards and verification of death certificates that had been collected on the shelves of the GMCH over time and had no use in the present day. They were burnt as they were taking up unnecessary space.
