Assam: Government Grants Financial Aid to NLFB Ex-Cadres for Reintegration

Assam Govt gives Rs 2 lakh each to 181 former NLFB cadres for peaceful reintegration and skill development.

GUWAHATI: In a significant move towards peace and reconciliation, the Assam Government has taken steps to support the reintegration of 181 former members of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB). During a ceremony at the Madhabdeb International Auditorium in Guwahati’s Panjabari, each of these former cadres received a financial grant of Rs 2 lakhs. This initiative aims to assist them in returning to mainstream society after the NLFB laid down its arms in July 2021.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended a warm welcome to these individuals, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the rehabilitation support to create self-employment opportunities. Additionally, he encouraged them to participate in various skill development programs offered by the state, ensuring their successful reintegration.

Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), expressed his gratitude for the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in bringing an end to the years of violence in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). He noted the prevailing peace in the region and its forward progress. Boro also praised the NLFB for their decision to abandon violence and choose the path of peace.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including MLA Lawrence Islary, EM Ranjit Basumatary, Assam DGP GP Singh, Biswajit Pegu, Secretary of Home & Political Department (IAS), Government of Assam, ADGP of SB & STF Hiren Chandra Nath, and Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS, among others. Their presence underscored the importance of this event in the state's journey towards lasting peace and prosperity.

This compassionate and forward-thinking initiative by the Assam Government signifies a significant step in the ongoing efforts to foster reconciliation, peace, and development in the Bodoland Territorial Region. The financial support provided to the NLFB cadres not only helps them reintegrate into society but also empowers them to explore various skill development programs, ultimately contributing to the region's progress.
