Assam: Governor Gulab Chand Kataria takes stock of different schemes

GUWAHATI: Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Thursday took a brief of the activities of the School Education department in the presence of education Minister Dr.Ranoj Pegu in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan on Thursday. Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Assam Dr. Om Prakash and Secretary and Managing Director, ASTPPCL School Education Department Shah Nawaz Choudhury, gave a detailed presentation of the activities of the department.

Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu apprised the Governor of different activities taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure qualitative development of the Education department. He also gave a brief snapshot of an array of schemes being implemented to gauge the performance of the teachers and students as well as overall development of the school education.

The Governor expressed satisfaction on the performance of the department and said that the department should identify the best performing districts and award them accordingly. The Governor also asked the department to properly monitor the activities of the schools and the District Commissioners should visit the school periodically. He also took briefing on the Adarsh Vidyalayas being set up in the State.

Among other discussions, the Governor said that along with the academic curriculum, the students should also be engaged extra- urricular activities. He also said that students should be engaged in scouts and guides, NCC etc to increase their self-confidence.

Director SCERT Niroda Devi gave a presentation of the activities of SCERT. Managing Director of Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan Anuja Bhuyan also gave a presentation on performance of the Vidyalayas. The meeting was attended by ASTPPCL chairman Debananda Hazarika, SEBA chairman RC Jain, Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Assam Dr. Om Prakash and other senior officers, stated a press release.
