Assam government appoints IPS Anand Mishra as the new SP of North Lakhimpur & Nabaneet Mahanta as new SP of Nagaon amid ongoing SI Junmoni Rabha death probe

GUWAHATI: IPS Anand Mishra takes charge as the new SP of North Lakhimpur & Nabaneet Mahanta takes charge as the new SP of Nagaon hours after the transfer of SP of Lakhimpur, Bedanta Madhab Rajkhowa and Nagaon SP Leena Doley. According to the report, the SP of Lakhimpur, Bedanta Madhab Rajkhowa, and SP of Nagaon, Leena Doley, have been transferred amid an investigation into the death of Morikolong sub-inspector Junmoni Rabha in an accident.

However, in 2022, Anand Mishra who was the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nagaon, was transferred after the Nagaon firing incident where a student leader Kirti Kamal Bora was shot by local police during an anti-drug operation.

Amid the ongoing death investigation of Junmoni Rabha which will be developed in the matter of the related case of Runa Neog who has been summoned by the Nagaon police headquarters in a case related to the entire case.

On the other hand, in the most recent development, Assam Police has summoned Lakhimpur Additional Superintendent of Police Runa Neog and directed her to appear before the investigative team at the police headquarters.

According to sources, a purported informant of deceased SI Junmoni Rabha revealed over the phone that SP Runa Neog had threatened Hasina Begum (the supposed informant of Junmoni Rabha) for her part in exposing the bogus gold-counterfeiting traders of Bangalmora.

On the other hand, it is to note that ASP Runa Neog was appointed during the tenure of ex-APSC chairman Rakesh Paul as Deputy SP in 2015.

Meanwhile, Nagaon and Lakhimpur SPs Leena Doley and Bedanta Madhab Rajkhowa have been reassigned in connection with the continuing investigation into Junmoni Rabha's killing.

GP Singh, the Director General of Police in Assam, announced during a press conference on May 20 that Junmoni Rabha's death case had been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation after an investigation into all aspects of the case.

According to sources, a purported informant of deceased SI Junmoni Rabha revealed over the phone that SP Runa Neog had threatened Hasina Begum (the supposed informant of Junmoni Rabha) for her part in exposing the bogus gold-counterfeiting traders of Bangalmora.

Hasina Begum even told the media that Junmoni Rabha had informed her about a possible threat to her life and requested her to travel to Nagaon for protection.
