GUWAHATI: In a major decision to ease consumer issues on account of property taxes, the Assam State government made it clear that it will not impose tax on the rural areas' people in the event of constructing their houses.

The decision came contrary to the announcement made earlier by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjit Kumar Dass, who said in a press conference that the rural areas' people would have to take permission from the respective Panchayat authorities to construct their houses and pay tax or fee, which created a massive uproar. The decision made rounds within the social media and travelled across various walks of life.

Meanwhile, the state government has already denied forming of a fee system for rural areas' people when they construct their houses or businesses establishment. Many social media users openly criticized the announcement alleging that it would completely break the backbone and morale of the people belonging to rural areas.

Following which, the state Public Relations department issued a release that categorically stated that the government would not form such a tax regime for the people belonging to rural areas of Assam.

Earlier on Thursday, the state cabinet took several important decisions, including that flat owners would not require Government's permission for sale and purchase of flats in Assam. This came as a major relief for the consumers who earlier had to wait for months in order to complete the necessary official formalities in order to get registration of their property. Shortly after the cabinet meeting was over, this was informed by the Guwahati Development, Urban Development and Irrigation Minister Ashok Singhal.

"The process generally would take more than three months and in case of situations where the model code of conduct has been applied or in cases where the concerned officers receive additional duties, the process used to stretch up for a few more months extra. The state cabinet today took the decision of removing the unnecessary hassles keeping in the mind of the consumers for the ease of business."
