Assam Govt Officials Held Red-Handed While Taking Bribes

The said accused was arrested while demanding Rs 1 lakh from a person to provide a license for a wine shop in the district.

GUWAHATI: The vigilance and anti-corruption wing of Assam police apprehended two state government officials red-handed while taking a bribe on Friday.

As per reports, in one of the incidents, the anti-corruption wing along with Morigaon police laid a trap and arrested red-handed Barsha Bora Bordoloi, district excise superintendent of Morigaon while accepting bribe money.

The said accused was arrested while demanding Rs 1 lakh from a person to provide a licence for a wine shop in the district. She was arrested while accepting the bribe after a complaint was lodged against her.

Similarly, in another operation by the anti-corruption wing, one Nabajyoti Sarma, dealing assistant office of the block elementary education officer (BEEO), Khuwang, Dibrugarh was held while accepting bribe money.

Meanwhile, a police officer was recently arrested for allegedly raking in money fraudulently in Assam's Darrang district.

As per reports, the accused officer was identified as Utpal Bora who is the officer-in-charge (OC) at Kharupetia police station in Darrang district.

Bora allegedly used to file fake cases against people in a bid to grab money from them.

Reportedly, he also demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a teacher and a doctor after filing fake complaints against them.

This was going on for a long time and eventually, his wrongdoings came to the fore following he was apprehended.
