GUWAHATI: State Finance, Health, and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government will take the course of law to deal with a man named Sharjeel Imam who was shown making offensive remarks on Assam in a video.
"If we have five lakh organised people then we can cut the North-east from rest of India. Our responsibility is to cut Assam from India then Government will hear our voice. If we have to help Assam then we will have to cut Assam from rest of India," said Imam in a video, where he is heard speaking to a gathering.
In a press conference at CM Block, Janata Bhawan, Guwahati, Sarma spoke with reporters. He said that Imam will be brought under the law for making such a derogatory statement against the state of Assam.
“We have to remain vigilant and people of Northeast and people of Assam will not allow anybody to take or create Assam out of India. Assam is an integral part of India; nobody has the authority or right to say that Assam will be cut out of India. So on the basis of the media report, the Government of Assam has verified the authenticity of the report and accordingly, we have decided to register a case against the Sharjeel Imam,” said Sarma.
He condemned Imam for making such elements and said that there were external elements involved in instigating violence in the country. Sarma also mentioned that there are certain members of certain communities who are trying to destroy India and create another Pakistan out of India.
"I am aghast at this brazen attempt by this person to create unrest in the country. He is seen inciting people and talking about his strategy to cut off Assam & North East from rest of India. We have taken cognisance and pursuing the matter to book this person as per law," Sarma later tweeted.
