Assam Govt To Pay Expenses For Olympic Preparation Of Lovlina And Hima Das

The government will appoint a coach for the upcoming Olympics preparations of Lovlina Borgohain and pay Rupees 2.5 lakh every month. It will also expense Rs 1 lakh for Hima Das's preparation.

New Delhi: The Assam government on Tuesday said that it will bear the expenses of Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgahain and Sprinter Hima Das for the preparation of the Olympics by providing them cash-aid.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting and as per the decision, the state government will provide the same amount till the 2024 Olympic Games.

An amount of Rupees 2.5 lakh from the state government will go monthly to Lovlina Borgohain, while Rupees 1 lakh will be provided to Hima Das.

The initiative has been taken by the Assam government so that it can help and support the sports stars of the state with all the facilities to get prepared for the upcoming major international sports event.

It aims to provide better training and facilities in the preparation of Olympic medalist Lovlina and athlete known as Dihing Express both representing Assam and the country in different national and international sports events.

The state's cabinet minister Keshav Mahanta announced the major update and informed that the government also took a decision for the appointment of a trainer for the Lovlina's preparation till the upcoming Olympic Games to be held in 2024.

The announcement by the health minister further states that just like the preparation of Lovlina it also gave emphasis on the preparation of Hima Das as it will expense Rupees one lakh monthly for the same purpose.

On Tuesday 15 March, Olympic medalist from Assam Lovlin Borgohain got selected in the women's boxing team of India for the Asian Games 2022 to be held in Hangzhou of China.

On the other hand, the Dihing Express Hima Das finished 2nd in the 200 meter final in the Indian Grand Prix 1 organized in Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala.
