Assam Govt to Resume Recruitment for 15,000 Posts in Police Force

The recruitment process for the 15,000 vacancies in the Assam Police department will start from September 1.

GUWAHATI: After a long halt in the recruitment procedure within the Assam Police department due to the ongoing pandemic situation in the state, the Assam cabinet has finally decided to resume the recruitment. Following a cabinet meeting led by the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the decision was finally taken to continue enlistment for Assam Police.

The recruitment process for the 15,000 vacancies in the Assam Police department will start from September 1. Also in the meeting, the decision to additionally establish five new Police Battalions with a total force of 6,270 personnel was taken to provide additional strength to maintain law and order in the state.

This information was shared by finance minister Ajanta Neog. Neog tweeted, "In a cabinet decision taken yesterday, 15,000 vacancies to be filled in @assampolice department under one lakh govt jobs initiative, Recruitment process to start from 1st Sept 2021. Five new Assam Police battalions to be raised, where 6,270 youths will be recruited."

Apart from this major decision, the cabinet also took some important initiatives that includes the merger of the Assam State Printing and Stationery Department with Information and Public Relation Department, and the new body will be known henceforth as the Information, public Relations, Printing and stationery Department. But despite the merger, both the bodies will be function under separate directors.

It was also decided in the meeting that the state government will provide jobs to those who bag medals in National and international level games from now onwards.

Notably, in addition to these new initiatives, sportspersons from Assam who secure medals in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and Olympics will be offered Grade I jobs, while the state players who win medals in World Championships will be given Grade II jobs. The achievers in National Games will be given provided Grade III jobs under the Assam government.

It may be mentioned that, the state government is constandly pursuing ways and taking initiatives to strengthen the state police force. Earlier in June this year, DGP Mahanta stated that the new commando battalions will be established in specific areas of the state to defend Assam's geographical integrity or to prevent a threat to India's sovereignty. He said that Ways to update the police task force in order to combat new types of criminal activity were carefully examined during the conference. The decision to construct a ten-man Professional Commando battalion to strictly combat criminal activity was affirmed.

The Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in July also informed that two shifts will be imposed at all police stations to lessen the pressure on police officers, and that 23,000 civil police officers and 12,000 commando police officers will be added to the system.
