GUWAHATI: In yet another large haul, the Government Railway Police (GRP) confiscated a huge amount of ganja from a train at Guwahati Railway Station on Wednesday night.

The police carried out a search operation based on intelligence and took possession of 93.7 kilograms of marijuana from a Rajdhani express train that was stationed there.

Before stopping in Guwahati, the train, according to information, was traveling towards lower Assam. The seized marijuana is claimed to have a market value measured in crores.

Regarding the seizure, no one has been detained. Further research is being done.

The GRP confiscated about 40 kilograms of marijuana earlier this year from the Vivek Express train as it arrived in Guwahati from Dimapur. The ganja, which was packaged in two bags, was discovered unattended in the train, according to the police; thus, no arrests were made in connection with the seizure.

The seized marijuana is believed to have cost 20 lakhs. Information indicates that the ganja was smuggled from Dimapur and was en route to Kanyakumari when it was discovered at Guwahati.

Massive amounts of drugs valued at more than Rs 400 crore were confiscated from two nearby northeastern states—Mizoram and Assam—on Wednesday, and three men were arrested, officials said.

A residence in east Mizoram's Champhai town, which borders Myanmar, was searched, and 39 lakh tablets of certain brands of decongestant and antihistamine valued at Rs 390.4 crore were seized.

They claimed it to be one of the largest drug seizures in the state. While antihistamines are frequently used to treat allergy symptoms, decongestant medications offer temporary relief from nasal congestion.

According to a police officer, heroin worth over Rs 12 crore was discovered in a car in the Karimganj area of Assam. As per Partha Pratim Das, the superintendent of police in Karimganj, the heroin found in Assam was also coming from Aizawl.
