DHUBRI: Guru Nanak Dev's 554th birth anniversary falls on Monday, November 27 and the historic Gurudwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in Dhubri in Assam is commemorating the same with a major celebration.
As they commemorated the birth anniversary of the first Sikh guru, devoted people from the Sikh community assembled in large numbers and offered ritual prayers at the Gurudwara.
The authorities informed that three days have been dedicated to the celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti at the historic Gurudwara, where the Kirtan Paath and Akhand Paath are being carried out. In addition, those who attend the Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations are given free food at the community kitchen, or langar.
The organising committee mentioned that they are commemorating at the Gurudwara Sri Tegh Bahadur Sahab the 554th anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji's birth. The Akhand Paath ended yesterday at 10 am, having started two days ago. The Kirtan Paath is being carried out throughout the day till 1 PM. He also mentioned that the langar service also continues without interruption. The langar will then run until five o'clock in the evening, according to Gurbindar Singh, the gurudwara's manager.
The important day was celebrated by the Sikh people across the country and the world. Several Gurudwaras across different towns and cities of the state including Guwahati organised events to mark the same. Kirtans and langars were organised throughout the day at various locations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared a message over social media to wish everyone. He said, “Greetings on the auspicious occasion of the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. His emphasis on serving others and furthering brotherhood give strength to millions around the world. Had also paid tributes to him during #MannKiBaat yesterday.”
