GUWAHATI: A six-lane bridge-cum-road project connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati across the Brahmaputra is currently under construction and is anticipated to be completed by 2024 in an effort to relieve traffic congestion in Guwahati.
Taking on twitter, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that, “We will soon be able to decongest Guwahati. The six-lane bridge connecting the city to North Guwahati will be ready next year.”
The 8.4 kilometre bridge will cost Rs. 2608 crore to construct. The bridge should be ready by 2024, with 73% of the construction already finished.
The bridge's main span will be 1.24 kilometres long. The road from Guwahati to Gauripur will be six lanes after you cross the bridge.
The Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is being built in the city over the Brahmaputra river, and the Assam government is considering using the expertise of IIT-Guwahati to undertake a quality audit and analyse risk management.
This action has been taken in consideration of the fact that the organisation responsible for building the six-lane Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge was also in charge of building the Bihar bridge that collapsed on June 4.
Following the collapse of a bridge in Bihar, the Assam government hired an IIT to do a quality audit of the bridge that was still being built to ensure that it adhered to all safety regulations.
In order to assess the state of the construction work, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the site of the Brahmaputra Bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati that is now under construction.
The bridge would be ready by next year, according to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also reported that over 73% of the building work has been finished so far.
The expected budget for the bridge project was Rs 2600 crore, of which Rs 1900 crore has already been spent on building this significant bridge that will reduce the travel time and distance to North Guwahati from the city. The six-lane bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati is currently being built, with an August 2024 completion date.
