Assam: Hailstorm Effects Almost 18000 People Across 4 Districts

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority has released a comprehensive list of all damages caused by the hailstorm that raged through a huge part of Upper Assam. Several locations in the Dibrugarh, Sivsagar, Tinsukia and Charaideo districts of the state have suffered heavy damage.

Under the Tinsukia district, the villages Bokajan Gaon, Dhulijan Gaon and Bisfutia faced damage. 88 people were affected and 22 katcha houses were partially damaged.

Demow circle of the Sivsagar district was affected. The villages of Borpathar, Singioni, Kotiori and Samoguri received hail. 1673 people were affected and 220 katcha houses received partially damaged and 200 tarpaulins were distributed among the affected families.

Four revenue circles under the Dibrugarh district namely Dibrugarh West, Dibrugarh East, Moran and Tingkhong were affected with a total of 67 affected villages. A total of 4861 people were affected as 1224 katcha and 7 pucca houses were partially damaged by hail. 1 katcha house was totally destroyed while Peoli Nagar L.P. School and Nagachapori LP School got partial damages. 10.5 hectares of crops were damaged in the hailstorm and 130 tarpaulins were distributed among the affected families.

Charaideo district was the worst hit by this weather disturbance. A total of 58 villages were affected under 3 revenue circles of the district. 11325 people were affected with 2967 kaccha houses and 41 pucca houses getting damaged partially. One Kacha house was totally destroyed by the weather phenomenon. Pragati LP School and No.1 Moran Town L.P. School were also damaged partially. 172.73 hectares of crop area was also damaged by hailstones. 3209 tarpaulins were also distributed among the affected people of the Charaideo district of the state.

The report mentioned that no humans died as a result of the severe hailstorm. But no details have been mentioned regarding any injury or death of livestock caused by the phenomenon.
