GUWAHATI: In a proactive move against drug trafficking, Assam's Hajo Police Station, led by Inspector Nabajit Nath, orchestrated a successful operation that led to the seizure of a substantial consignment of drugs. During the operation, which took place the previous night, law enforcement officials detained two individuals and discovered approximately 20 kilograms of cannabis in their possession. The estimated value of the seized cannabis in the illegal market was reported to be around Rs 2 lakhs.

The operation unfolded at the residence of Kamal Deka in the Bagta Bechimari region, based on received intelligence. Law enforcement officers uncovered and confiscated the stash of 20 kilograms of cannabis, which had been hidden at the location. Consequently, Kamal Deka, the occupant of the residence, was taken into custody. Another individual involved in the peddling of cannabis, Ratul Deka from Japia in Hajo, was also apprehended. Hajo Police promptly lodged a case and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter to dismantle the drug network further.

Earlier this month, another significant drug seizure occurred in Gogamukh, Assam. The authorities undertook a targeted operation to combat contraband smuggling, resulting in the confiscation of a significant amount of cannabis weighing approximately 5.2 kilograms. The estimated value of the seized cannabis was determined to be between Rs 3 lakhs and Rs 4 lakhs. In connection with the bust, law enforcement officials detained Firoze Pegu on charges of smuggling. Additionally, a motorcycle was seized from Pegu's possession. The investigation into this case is currently ongoing as officials work to uncover the full extent of the drug network and identify any additional culprits involved.

Furthermore, Assam's fight against drug trafficking extended to the railway sector. In a joint operation carried out by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Nagaon district, a train was intercepted, resulting in the seizure of 5 kilograms of contraband drugs on June 5. Two individuals were apprehended during the operation, which was executed at Lumding railway station. T Boro, an official from GRP Lumding, revealed that law enforcement officers discovered nine packets of ganja weighing approximately 5 kilograms within the train. The two women from Bihar, who were found in possession of the ganja, were promptly apprehended. A case has been registered, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to dismantle any potential drug smuggling networks operating through the railway system.

These recent drug seizures and arrests in Assam's Hajo and Gogamukh regions underscore the dedication of law enforcement agencies to combatting drug trafficking and the illegal drug trade within the state. The operations serve as a strong message that drug peddlers and smugglers will face severe consequences as authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain the peace and security of the region.
