Health Minister Keshab Mahanta visited Nimatighat and inspected the 108 Mrityunjay ferry ambulance service which serves the people of Majuli.

JORHAT: Health Minister Keshab Mahanta visited Nimatighat and inspected the 108 Mrityunjay ferry ambulance service which serves the people of Majuli. The minister said that out of the three ambulance ferries, one was out of service. "Another ferry ambulance would soon be arranged, " he said.

Mahanta told the media persons that he would set up an AYUSH hospital at Majuli and resolve the problems of the Garmur Government Hospital on the island.

The minister later visited the house of Dr Bikamjit Baruah, ENT surgeon at Baruah Chariali here and interacted with his family. Baruah who had been posted at Majuli has been missing since September 8.

Mahanta later opened a vaccination and COVID-19 testing centre at Jorhat's ISBT. He also launched 15 mobile vaccination vehicles to serve the rural areas of the three districts, Majuli, Jorhat and Sivasagar. Mahanta said that with opening up of inter district travel, the vaccination centre would ensure that all passengers coming to Jorhat were vaccinated and the testing facility would support this.
