Assam: Heavy Rain Causes Water-logging In Jorabat

Guwahati: Several parts of Jorabat including National Highway (NH) 37 witnessed water-logging followed by incessant rain.

The residents of these areas faced trouble while carrying out their daily routine as they have to face knee-high water on NH 37.

However, the situation is likely to continue as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already predicted that southwest monsoon is all set to hit the northeast region.

As per the IMD, conditions have turned out favorable for further advancement of the monsoon towards the northeast, after it arrived in Kerala, three days ahead of time on Sunday.

''Southwest Monsoon has advanced into remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, most parts of Kerala, some parts of south Tamil Nadu, some parts of Gulf of Mannar and some more parts of southwest Bay of Bengal today, the 29th May 2022. Thus, Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala today, the 29th May 2022 against the normal date of 01st June i.e. 3-days ahead of its normal date,'' IMD said in its official statement on Sunday.

The weather forecasting agency also predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Assam-Meghalaya till June 2 and over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on June 1 and June 2.

''Isolated heavy rainfall also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during 30th May-1st June; over Assam-Meghalaya during 29th May-02nd June; over Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 01st & 02nd June 2022,'' the statement added.
