GUWAHATI: The Assam police have made significant progress by dismantling an interstate drug smuggling network and recovering heroin valued at Rs. 11 crore. The 1.35 kg drug shipment, which was packed in 98 soap cases, was concealed in a hidden compartment within a car that was travelling from the Churachandpur district of Manipur. The car was stopped in Guwahati's Amingaon by the police.
Tomizur Rahman from Wangoi and Abdul Rahim from Lilong in Manipur, who were both drug peddlers, were caught. DIG, STF Partha Sarathi Mahanta, and Addl SP (HQ), Kamrup Kalyan Kumar Pathak, conducted the operation.
In a post on X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Assam police and stated, "1.350 kg of heroin was seized from a vehicle coming from a neighbouring state that was intercepted in Guwahati during a special anti-narcotics operation carried out by @STFAssam."
Previously, the Special Task Force seized a huge quantity of heroin worth approximately Rs 1.2 crore and apprehended one peddler, Baten Ali of Bheragaon, under Kalgachia Police Station. According to sources, based on information, an operation was launched in the wee hours, which was led by Kalyan Pathak, Additional SP, under the direct supervision of Partha Sarathi Mahanta, DIG, STF, and the team intercepted an Arunachal-bound bus bearing registration AR 01Q 0757 at Baihata. On intercepting, the team recovered 10 boxes of heroin and a number of vials weighing 150 gms without cover. The necessary legal action was being initiated.
Previously, the police had arrested a drug peddler with a huge quantity of cannabis from the Garigaon area. According to sources, an operation was carried out by the Jalukbari police in the Garigaon area, where the team arrested the peddler identified as Biki Choudhury. However, after receiving information about the operation, the father of the peddler fled from the scene. It may be mentioned that Biki Choudhury has been arrested in relation to allegations of drug peddling.
