Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma Opens Nilachal Flyover for Public

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma flagged off the much-awaited Nilachal Flyover in the Maligaon locality of the city on the afternoon of Wednesday. This new infrastructure is expected to bring relief to the people of the city.

Named the Nilachal Flyover, this 2.63 km long project is the longest flyover in the city yet. It has been constructed by Anupam Nirman Pvt. Ltd. and Shree Gautam Construction Co. Ltd., with a total expenditure of over Rs 420 crore connecting Maligaon to Kamakhya Gate. It also has a wing towards the Pandu locality of the city.

The project was completed in less than 3 years and is expected to relieve the traffic congestion between the Bhutnath and Adabari localities.

Several dignitaries also attended this opening ceremony alongside the chief minister. Guwahati Member of Parliament, Queen Ojha, West Guwahati Member of Legislative Assembly Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Minister Ashok Singhal and Guwahati Municipal Corporation mayor Mrigen Sarania also attended this event alongside the other dignitaries. Senior officials from the police and administration were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said, “This flyover has been a long-awaited project for the citizens and I am very happy to dedicate the same to the public today. This project will relieve the traffic congestion and help the people travelling through the Maligaon region. I want to thank all the people involved in the project, and in making this project a success. This will also make access easier for the people who want to visit the Kamakhya Temple or the Kamakhya Railway Station.”

The chief minister also announced that the new terminal at the Guwahati Airport will be inaugurated soon, along with a new six-lane area to access the same. A new flyover at the Dharapur point of the city was also announced along with new flyovers at Bharalamukh and Fatashil localities. He also mentioned that once the projects are completed, people will reach the Kamakhya Temple in 20 minutes from the Guwahati Airport, and vice versa.

He also appealed to the public to keep the flyover clean and not to spit there.
