Guwahati: The Assam Educational Department has started to implement many crucial decisions of the National Educational Policy - 2020 (NEP).
The education department has set a deadline of 2023 to meet the changes and transform them into a reality. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated this to reporters on May 8.
According to the NEP - 2020, school education means classes till the 12th standard cannot be inside a college, the education minister said.
Ranoj Pegu told reporters that colleges are higher education institutes with graduation and post-graduation degree classes and so setting 2023 as the target, the department is moving ahead to shift 11th and 12th standards from colleges to schools.
The education minister revealed that necessary measures have been undertaken so as to elevate 1,000 high schools to higher secondary schools in Assam. Earlier in 2021, 215 high schools were upgraded to higher secondary schools and the selection procedure for upgradation is underway.
Furthermore, Ranoj Pegu said that the process to merge SEBA (Secondary Education Board of Assam) and AHSEC (Assam Higher Secondary Education Council) has also begun.
Pegu concluded by saying that according to the SEP, both the education boards should be under one head as a result of which the process has been initiated. The offices will remain separated even if they are integrated and there will be a chairman and co-chairman.
