BARPATHAR: In a significant operation, law enforcement officials in Golaghat have intercepted and seized a cache of 300 bags of urea fertilizer that was being transported in violation of legal regulations. The illicit cargo was discovered concealed beneath a sack of flour inside a truck bearing the registration number AS-03-BC-8888.
Two individuals, identified as Rakib Ali and Ranjan Bhuiyan, have been apprehended in connection with this unlawful transport operation. Both individuals are now facing legal consequences as authorities intensify efforts to combat the illicit transportation and trade of fertilizers within the region.
Meanwhile, Dibrugarh police apprehended three Naga women with 348 grams of suspected heroin in the Joypur area of the Dibrugarh district on Friday. Suspected drugs worth Rs 1.5 crore were seized by the police team. According to police, three Naga women carrying drugs from Dimapur via Duliajan to Arunachal were apprehended by Joypur police. The police team recovered 348 grams of suspected heroin in 29 soap cases from their possession.
“They were traveling in a vehicle with the registration number (AS-06AJ5275) while on their way to Arunachal Pradesh. We received a tip-off regarding their movement and launched an operation under the Joypur police station. We have held three female drug peddlers and seized suspected heroin from their possession,” said a police official. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) Dibrugarh police said, “A team of Joypur PS led by OC Joypur and Deputy SP Namrup recovered 29 soap cases of suspect heroin weighing approximately 348 grams, and arrested four drug dealers. The car used for transportation has been seized too.
It may be mentioned here that acts of illegal seizure have been thoroughly scrutinised by the Assam government in recent times. ”They were allegedly smuggling the contraband to Arunachal Pradesh for sale. The driver of the car was also arrested by the police along with the three women from Arunachal Pradesh. A case has been registered in connection with the seizure of the heroin consignment at the Joypur police station in the Dibrugarh district. The arrested persons have been booked under sections 21(C)/29 of the NDPS Act in connection with the case.
