KOKRAJHAR: In a continuing efforts to stop the timber smuggling, the 6th Bn.SSB on Tuesday seized 70 pieces of swan timber logs and 7 bicycles from Sonapur Tukrabasti near Bhutan border in Chirang district. On October 14 also the SSB seized huge quantity of timber logs from Reshmiguri near Bhutan border in Chirang district and Dholpani reserve near Ultapani under Haltugaon Division in Kokrajhar district. The continuous detection of timber logs proves that illegal activities and smuggling of timber logs in reserve forest has been continuing unabated in BTC reserve forests.
Sources from SSB said based on inputs, SSB could seize 70 pieces of swan timber logs and 7 bicycles worth Rs. 1,11,000 on Tuesday. The seized items were handed over to Forest Range office at Runikhata.
SSB sources also said the joint patrolling of SSB of Dadgari and Sonapur BOP and Forest department was carried out on October 14 and 58 wooden logs were seized. The wooden logs could have been worth value Rs. 12.52 lakhs. The seized items were handed over to forest beat office under range Runikhata in Chirang district.
On the other hand, the same SSB battalion situated at Naharani in Uktapani reserve forest with the forest department conducted a joint operation in Dholpani reserve on Tuesday and seized 34 pieces of timber logs worth Rs. 1 lakh. Sources said the seized timber logs, 3 power chain saw machines were handed over to forest range office at Ultapani in Kokrajhar district.
