DIBRUGARH: Hundreds of Congress members on Friday staged a sit-in demonstration at the Rajiv Bhavan in Dibrugarh in protest against the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities in the State.

Led by senior Congress leader Paban Singh Ghatowar, the Congress party members raised slogans against the BJP government for failing to control the steep prices of essential commodities. Former Congress MLA Raju Sahu and other senior leaders participated in the demonstration. The protesters sought immediate intervention from the centre to control the price rise.

“BJP has completely failed to control the skyrocketing prices of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders, medicines, baby food and other essential. commodities. The government is oblivious to the sufferings of the common man. Vegetables and other daily-use items have gone beyond the reach of the common man. The government is sitting silent. We demand immediate intervention from the government to check the spiraling price. When the Congress was in power, the BJP used to protest against price rise. But now when prices have more than doubled they don’t have any answers. They have destroyed the middle and lower class through their anti-people policies,” a protesting Congress leader said.
