GOALPARA: The immersion of Goddess Durga idols was peaceful as a whole in the Goalpara district on Tuesday. Strict safety measures like adequate deployment of security personnel, disciplined traffic measures were taken by the district administration to perform the religious function. There were about 131 puja pandals, including 37 in Goalpara town, 27 under Lakhipur police station, 15 under Dudhnoi, 14 under Krishnai and many other places like Matia, Agia, Dhupdhara, Makri etc.
Nishi Das, secretary of the age-old Harisabha Mandir Puja Committee of Goalpara town, expressed satisfaction over the coordination among the all Puja committees and the active support extended by the district administration, police administration and the general public, irrespective of caste and creed, which made the auspicious celebration a grand success.
