Assam: Incident of Robberies on the Rise Ahead of Durga Puja

The recent increase in the number of incidents of theft and robbery has triggered fear among the people of the town.

LUMDING: With the Durga Puja festival just around the corner, the Lumding town of Assam has seen an increase in the number of thefts and robberies.

Lumding is a key transit town in Assam and it serves as an important spot on the routes to both Upper Assam and Nagaland. It has a large Bengali population, for whom the festival of Durga Puja is of utmost importance. However, the recent increase in the number of incidents of theft and robbery has triggered fear among the people of the town.

The most recent took place in the Subhash Palli locality of the Lumding town, wherein taking advantage of no one being at home, robbers racked the residence of a family. The owner of the house, Tapan Das informed that the robbers entered the premises by breaking down the rear entrance of the house and they stole all the cash, ornaments, documents and other valuable items at the house at the time of the incident.

Lumding police is currently investigating the incident but it remains to see if the police will be able to recover the lost items and arrest the thieves involved in these incidents. Meanwhile, the rise in the number of thefts and robberies has left the residents deeply worried about the safety of themselves as well as their belongings.

Thefts and robberies have become a daily occurrence as another incident of robbery took place in the Lumding town of Assam creating major risks for the people of the region. Apart from looting several business houses, the thieves also stole several two-wheelers when people were not around. It can be noted that over 6 two-wheelers have been stolen in the last month alone and several houses have been robbed of cash, valuables and other important items.
