GUWAHATI: In a distressing incident, a prisoner named Abdul Mutalib lost his life in North Lakhimpur District Jail, Assam, following a severe attack by another inmate. This incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of inmates within the correctional facility.
On October 29, an inmate named Abul Kalam reportedly physically assaulted several fellow inmates, including Abdul Mutalib, Ruhul Amin, Ajijur Rahman, and Jainal Abdi. All the victims of this alleged attack were subsequently transferred to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for advanced medical care.
Abul Kalam, who was serving a life sentence, is said to have used a stone as a weapon in the assault. The attack left Abdul Mutalib with grave head injuries, requiring his admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for specialized medical attention. Tragically, Abdul Mutalib succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, and his death has drawn considerable attention.
The three other inmates who were injured in the same incident have since been deemed stable and were returned to the prison after receiving medical treatment.
