Assam: Interactive Session on Global Education and Career Options organised in GU

Several experts in their own fields shared their knowledge and expertise during this event.

GUWAHATI: In a bid to provide students with invaluable insights into global education and diverse career paths, the Department of Communication and Journalism at Gauhati University organized an interactive session on Wednesday. The session began with an enlightening introductory speech by Dr. Bharati Bharali, Assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Journalism. Rrituraj Sharma, UK-based IT and Agri-Business Expert, a musician, a journalist by passion and creator of ‘Xopunor Deuka’ took centre stage to share illuminating stories of individuals who defied conventional boundaries and achieved remarkable success on the international stage, irrespective of their backgrounds.

The session underscored the importance of acquiring skills that set individuals apart from automated processes. Rrituraj Sharma emphasised the essence of holding onto one's roots while embracing global opportunities. He delved into various aspects of pursuing education and careers abroad, even without scholarships. Sharma’s insights covered his transition from e-commerce and retail sectors to banking, and subsequently venturing into the realm of IT. A key takeaway from his interaction was the significance of maintaining an active presence on LinkedIn, a platform that holds substantial value in today’s interconnected professional landscape. Additionally, the discussion touched upon emerging fields such as AI and machine learning.

The session was graced by Prof. Jogen Ch. Kalita, Head of the Department of Zoology and Dean of the Faculty of Science. Sharing examples of natives who have distinguished themselves on international platforms, he inspired the students to broaden their horizons, cultivate unique skills, and forge their paths in the dynamic world of global education and careers. The programme was also attended by Dipika Choudhury, Assistant Librarian of KKH Library at Gauhati University and Paramita Medhi, Placement Cell Officer at Gauhati University. Dr Bishnu Saikia and Nishanta Sharma, teaching associates of the department were also present. Further, Students from the MA 1st and 3rd semesters of the department along with the 1st-semester students of the integrated five-year masters programme specializing in Communication and Journalism also participated in the programme.
