Assam: IPL Betting Racket Busted in Silchar,Rs. 39 Lakh Recovered & 2 Arrested by Cachar Police

On Thursday, Cachar Police busted Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket, detained two people, and recovered Rs. 39 lakh in Silchar, Assam.

SILCHAR: Cachar Police on Thursday busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket in Silchar, Assam, and arrested two persons named Gautam Roy and Rupal Modak. These masterminds of the IPL betting in Assam were arrested from Hailakandi town road in Silchar town.

On the other hand, local police authorities seized one laptop, eight cellphones, and other questionable materials from their possession during betting on a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

According to a report, SP Cachar Numal Mahatta said, “We have intensified our operation against IPL gambling in the district and arrested a few persons earlier also. Based on secret information, we launched an operation early today morning in the Shivaji Nagar area of Silchar town and arrested two persons who were running IPL gambling in the entire Barak Valley region.”

He also said, “We have recovered Rs 39 lakh, one laptop, 8 mobile phones, and three ledger books in possession from them.”

A case has been registered regarding the racket.

Numal Mahatta, the Cachar district's superintendent of police, claimed that the accused were operating an illicit IPL gambling operation in the Barak Valley area.

Meanwhile, Assam Police cracked down on gamblers and betting during IPL matches in the state, and Hojai Police uncovered a scam and arrested 5 people from Lanka, recovering Rs. 8 lakh in cash and four mobile phones from their hands.

Furthermore, in 2022, Nagaon police apprehended six gamblers from the Katimari Grant area during an illicit betting raid. Local police recovered Rs. 2 lakh, as well as a television, betting sheets, and mobile phones.

Furthermore, Assam Police arrested a person on May 1 for allegedly participating in India Premier League (IPL) betting in the state's Bongaigaon area.

Surendra Jain, a native of Shivan Nagar in Bongaigaon, has been identified as the culprit and is thought to be the mastermind behind IPL betting.
