Assam: Japanese Encephalitis, Acute Encephalitis claims 3 in Sivasagar

The menace of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) is increasing steadily in the State. In Sivasagar district too, Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) have taken a violent form.

SIVASAGAR: The menace of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) is increasing steadily in the State. In Sivasagar district too, Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) have taken a violent form. So far three people have died in the district due to the disease. A total of 57 persons have been affected by JE and AES in the district till date. Of these, 19 people have been affected by JE and 38 from AES.

Most of those who have been infected and died have also taken the vaccine in the past. This was informed by Joint Director of Health Services, Sivasagar Dr Bhupendra Das. Confirming the deaths, Dr Das also said, “Most number of cases of JE are reported in Demow health block with 8, 5 in Geleky, 4 in Khelua and 2 in Morabazara health block.”

An alert has been sounded following the outbreak of the disease and medical teams have been conducting awareness programmes in the encephalitis-prone areas. Besides, preventive measures like fogging and spraying of mosquito-repellents are being undertaken in the disease-prone areas, informed the joint director of health services.
