Assam: Jarashar River causes flood in Balipara

The sudden rise in the level of the River Jarashar that flows in the outskirts of Balipara township caused flooding in the adjoining areas of Balipara on Wednesday.

JAMUGURIHAT: The sudden rise in the level of the River Jarashar that flows in the outskirts of Balipara township caused flooding in the adjoining areas of Balipara on Wednesday.

The river water flooded Balipara commercial centre, Bam Gaon, Kumari Gaon, Dighali, Dighali Balijan, Udmari Gaon, Dhekeri Gaon, Bhobola Gaon and Owhala village. Hectares of paddy fields were also submerged by water causing great loss to the farmers. The Balipara PHC, Balipara Cooperative Society, APDCL office premises, Punjab National Bank premises, Kumari Gaon namghar, Kumari Gaon LP School, Dighali Balijan LP school were also submerged.

The NH-15 from the railway overbridge in the eastern part and the traffic point located at the midpoint of Balipara, Balipara-Chardwar road were under flood water causing temporary blockade of the NH 15. The vehicles plying through NH 15 via Balipara route were directed to move through Khanamuk to Meat Supply and Mansiri-Lokra roads. The NH-15 was blocked from the railway over bridge on the eastern part and at Meat Supply point for the commuters. A team of SDRF in association with local administration helped rescue people from their houses with the help of rubber boats.
