Assam Jatiya Parishad's Chittaranjan Basumatary Resigns

Basumatary's resignation has shocked the AJP members and leaders and people are speculating that he might move to another party.

Guwahati: In one of the biggest political developments in the state, Chittaranjan Basumatary, who was one of the founders of the party, resigned on Friday.

Taking to the social media platform Facebook, he informed the same but he didn't disclose the reason behind his resignation.

"I resigned from AJP. I am politically free now," he wrote on Facebook.

Basumatary's resignation has shocked the AJP members and leaders and people are speculating that he might move to another party.

However, media reports claimed that he won't join any party presently.

Notably, his importance in the party can't be neglected as he was the candidate of the party for the Dhemaji constituency in the 2021 Assembly Election.

Apart from getting a second place in Dhemaji in terms of votes and he was among the highest voted candidate from the AJP in the 2021 elections.

He was also the candidate for the Majuli by-polls held in March this year.
