Assam: Jawaharlal Nehru College, Boko celebrates its diamond jubilee year

BOKO: Jawaharlal Nehru College, Boko, Kamrup district is celebrating its diamond jubilee with programmes on Thursday as the starting day of its 60th anniversary. The college celebrated its foundation day with various programmes including hoisting of 60 flags, homage to the martyr, tree planting and colourful cultural rally by the students, alumni and the faculty of the college. The cultural rally was inaugurated by Shanti Kumar Jain, a prominent industrialist from Rajapara, Boko.

Principal of the College Dr. Tapan Dutta said that the foundation stone of the first floor of the new Kala Bhawan and the Sathirtha Bhawan of the Alumni Association was laid in conjunction with the diamond jubilee year of the college. An open session was held in conjunction with the diamond jubilee celebrations. The opening ceremony was attended by the Principal of the college Dr. Tapan Dutta, Founder Principal Jatin Chandra Nath, Dr. Amarjyoti Chowdhury, former Vice-Chancellor of Guwahati University, prominent writer Mayur Bora, former Acting Principal of the college Basanta Dutta along with the meeting which was attended by several alumni, faculty and students of the college including Swadhin Boro, a prominent social worker of Boko. The same meeting also felicitated several retired workers of the college and alumni.

The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Dr. Amarjyoti Chowdhury, former Vice-Chancellor of Guwahati University. In his speech, Chowdhury suggested that the college could help in the economic development of some people in the area by adopting a scheme in conjunction with the diamond jubilee year and should take efforts to improve the cultural life of the area.

During the open session, JN College released a college theme song which was opened by the founder principal of the college, Jatin Chandra Nath. The theme song was composed by Gautam Sharma, Executive Editor of ‘Amar Asom’ newspaper and sung by musician Tarali Sharma.

The foundation day was marked by a memorial lecture by prominent thinker and writer Mayur Bhara. He spoke on the topic of the future of the new generation: doubts and possibilities and spoke about the historical society of Assam and the work of the students of that time. He also appreciated the Jawaharlal Nehru College which is full of natural life in the concrete forest.

The song is composed by Gautam Sharma, who said that Boko is a meeting place of people of different communities and is full of diverse arts and culture.
