Assam: Journalist felicitated in Tinsukia district

The 80th birthday of prominent journalist, writer, actor and social worker Amulya Khataniar was celebrated by ‘Surjudoy’, a leading voluntary organization of Tinsukia district at ‘Keshav Bahety Surjudoy Children Home’ situated at Gangabari in Tinsukia district on Friday.

DOOMDOOMA: The 80th birthday of prominent journalist, writer, actor and social worker Amulya Khataniar was celebrated by ‘Surjudoy’, a leading voluntary organization of Tinsukia district at ‘Keshav Bahety Surjudoy Children Home’ situated at Gangabari in Tinsukia district on Friday.

In the programme moderated by Akhil Chandra Baruah, Director of ‘Surjudoy’, veteran journalist and social activist Amulya Khataniar who was Tinsukia district correspondent of the ‘Ajir Asam’ , an Assamese daily published by the Sentinel group of newspapers, was accorded a warm felicitation by ‘Surjudoy’ in the programme. The former president of Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) Rana Changmai and former president of Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sewi Mancha and writer Atul Chandra Sharma also felicitated Khatniar on his 80th birthday.

Addressing the event, retired professor of English Department of Tinsukia Women’s College Dr Uttam Duwara, senior journalist and former president of Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha Arjun Baruah and journalist Abhijit Khatniar spoke on different aspects of Amulya Khataniar’s life and works. In reply to the felicitation, journalist Amulya Khataniar thanked ‘Surjudoy’ and narrated several important events of his journalistic career.

Manashi Baruah rendered a song in the programme. The event was attended by social workers Ajanta Sharma and Hira Chetia, Vice-President of the Children’s Home Management Committee Preeti Rajkhowa and several other dignitaries besides the inmates and workers of the Children Home.
