Assam: ‘Journalists cannot ignore importance of AI’

MANGALDAI: The Darrang district administration and the District Information and Public Relations Office, in collaboration with the District Committee of Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU), observed the National Press Day at the conference hall of the DC office. The event witnessed the presence of distinguished officials and the media persons.

The theme of the event, “Media in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” took center stage with Jyotisha Saikia, Communication Specialist in SeSTA, as the keynote speaker. Jyotisha Saikia delivered a thought-provoking speech on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the media industry. “Journalists can’t ignore the importance of AI, but they should learn its significance and use it to contribute more creatively to society,” she emphasized.

Senior media person Bhargab Kr. Das taking part in the function as a guest speaker emphasized the crucial role of media ethics, stating, “The media should follow the ethics of journalism; otherwise, the whole society will suffer one day.” He also shed light on the ongoing transformations in the media landscape, drawing from his extensive experience.

DIPRO Darrang Sameer Shandilya underscored the importance of National Press Day, remarking, “Media is the mirror of society, and we can have a strong democratic country through a robust media.” District Development Commissioner Pankaj Deka presiding over the function acknowledged the extensive impact of AI but expressed confidence that the creative ideas of the human mind cannot be replaced. Additional District Commissioners Jonti Deka and Nabadweep Changmai, Assistant Commissioner Ihsanul Hussain, media persons Sahir Bhuyan, Mayukh Goswami and Shankar Kakati also took part in the function.

The event brought together media persons from various houses and officials from different departments, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives. As we celebrate National Press Day, it serves as a reminder of the pivotal role the media plays in shaping societal narratives and upholding democratic values.
