DIBRUGARH: The family members of Daljeet Singh Kalsi were pleased to note that the Waris Punjab De member was being treated well in Dibrugarh jail.

The wife and son of Waris Punjab De member Daljeet Singh Kalsi, who is currently lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail, met him in the jail premises on Thursday.

The wife of Kalsi, Narinder Kaur and their son, Simarjeet alias Sunny, arrived at the Dibrugarh jail at 10.20 am and left the premises at 2.40 pm after meeting the prisoner.

Later, while talking to reporters, Kaur said the members of the Waris Punjab De, including her husband, were being looked after properly inside the prison. She added that she and her son were allowed to meet her husband for an hour.

Narinder Kaur had earlier filed a habeas corpus petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court, in which she sought her husband’s release from the ‘illegal custody’ in jail in Assam. In her habeas corpus petition, she had also sought to quash the detention order under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980, passed by the district magistrate at the direction of the Punjab government

Daljeet Singh Kalsi, a popular Punjabi actor, has been lodged in Dibrugarh jail since March 19. He is reported to be a close aide of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ leader, Amritpal Singh and financer of his activities.

Kaur said,“I met my husband, Daljeet Kalsi, inside the Dibrugarh jail. I was allowed one hour’s time to talk to him. They are all fine and facing no problem inside the jail, and are getting their choice of food. The jail and court are looking after them well. My husband has done no wrong and what the media is portraying is false. All allegations are baseless. They are working for the Panth (Sikh faith). Amritpal, too, has not done anything wrong. He asked people to abstain from drugs, and I see no wrong in it. The name of the Panth is being tarnished intentionally.”
